Sunrise in Highmore – A small, rural farming town in South Dakota
When I witness a sunrise in Highmore, I am calm, relaxed, and uplifted. The sunrise signifies the commencement of a new day—a new adventure—especially out at the farm when tasks that need to be completed seem endless and things to do never seem to end. The sunrise begins the day for a farmer and the sunset will end it. The sunrise begins the day for every living being—from the plants beginning photosynthesis to the animals emerging from their homes. The sun, the eternal clock of the earth, unifies the living beings who occupy it.
Of Paint and Peace
Brush in hand, inspired
Dipped in delicate, rich color
Reminiscing of many a past summer
Of mornings most admired
The mind full of everlasting wonder
By how the early sky becomes fuller
When one has just awoken from gracious slumber
And stable earth and floating sky are with one another
Finishing the last heavy brush stroke
Colors having already lazily melted
After filling the blank space of an open canvas
Like pulling from a warm comforting embrace
The beautiful masterpiece will have wilted
For a new painting will take its place
